I have just read your comment and do have a answer for you.   It sounds as if you were near the location of a “portal”.  This is a place where the energy of those who have past or where enities enter and leave our plane.  It sounds as if while you were there activity was taking place.  And what you were seeing was the accumilation of the energy because either many were coming and going at that time, or there was enough energy in one of the deceased or one of the enities that you were able to see the energy, that appeared as if fog.   Usually this suggests negative energy of some sort, though without being there it is hard to tell if indeed it’s negative or not.
